Corrective Makeup Tips

A basic technique for applying makeup is to emphasis the good features by highlighting and minimizing the imbalanced or not so good features, by shadowing or shading with the right combination of cosmetics colors, which is the purpose of corrective makeup.

What is highlighting?

When a lighter shade of foundation is applied on a particular area of the face, it is highlighted to focus attention.

What is shadowing or shadings?

When a darker shade of foundation is applied on a particular feature, it minimizes attention on that area shadowing detracts attention.

What is blending ?

When two shades of foundation are used they must be spread towards the required direction properly. Any demarcation line of two foundation should not be visible. Caution is the keyword while blending.

Importance of makeup color.

Different colors of cosmetics produce different effects on each individual face. Care must be taken to choose the right cosmetics colors. The following points are to be considered before deciding on colors:

  1. Analyze the profile and the front appearance of your face.
  2. Ascertain the color of your eyes, skin and hair.
  3. Choose makeup color that flatter the color of the eyes, skin and hair.
  4. Imperfect features should be toned down by choosing and applying matching dark colors.
  5. Select and apply makeup high lighters according to the corrective result required.
Primary Contouring of Faces.

Face contouring is done before the main general foundation. Highlighting and shadowing of the features achieved by different shades of foundation get fixed in their place and effect is softened by an overall application of one color foundation. This means that for corrective contouring, 3 shades of foundations are needed:

  1. Lighter shade of foundation for highlighting.
  2. Dark color foundation for downtoning imperfect features.
  3. Overall natural skin color foundation to defuse the harshness of highlighting and shadowing.
